UVA Wise Football Announces 2025 Schedule; Features Six Home Games

Red & Gray Game Also Announced for April 26 at 2 p.m.

WISE – The UVA Wise football staff have released the team's 2025 schedule, which features six home games. The announcement comes with the start of Spring practice, which will culminate in the annual Red vs. Gray Spring Game on April 26.

The team will also play three home night games for the first time in the program's 34 year history.

With the South Atlantic Conference going to a full conference schedule instead of divisions, all but one game will be conference games.

They open the season on August 30, when they host Concord at 6 p.m. for their only non-conference game of the season. The Cavs and Mountain Lions faced off in Athens, West Virginia, last season with the Cavs walking away with the 28-0 shutout. This will be the twelfth meeting between the two programs, with CU holding the 6-5 advantage.

Newberry comes to Wise on September 6 for a 6 p.m. game. The two teams were scheduled to play last season at Newberry, but the game was cancelled due to the damage to the Newberry area from post-hurricane Helene. The two last played on October 9, 2021 in Wise, with the Wolves winning 37-14. This will be the third meeting in the series, with Newberry winning the first two meetings.

On Sept. 13 the team hits the road for the first time to face Catawba in the fourth meeting of the series. UVA Wise has won all three of the previous meetings, including the 31-28 win in Wise last year. That game will begin at 6 p.m.

The team returns to Wise on Sept. 20 to face Wingate for a 6 p.m. kickoff. They defeated the Cavs 33-0 in Wise last season en route to the SAC championship and a NCAA Tournament berth, where they fell in the first round. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 5-0.

Tusculum and UVA Wise will meet for the sixteenth time when they face off in a Homecoming game in Wise on Sept. 27 at 2 p.m.. Because of the change from divisions, the Pioneers will play in Wise for the second year in a row. In last season's meeting the Cavaliers used a big third quarter to pull ahead and then held off the Pioneers for the 35-27 win. TU leads the series 8-7.

The Cavs will then make their first trip to Anderson on October 4 to face the Trojans in a 2 p.m. game. Anderson won the first-ever meeting between the two schools last season in Wise 20-13.

Following a bye week on Oct. 11, the Cavs re-take the field on Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. in Hickory, North Carolina, where they face Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears are the second of three teams on the UVA Wise schedule to make the NCAA Tournament last season, where they fell in the second round. The teams last met in 2023 in Hickory, with the Bears coming out on top in that contest. L-R leads the all-time series 3-1, with the win by the Cavs coming via the 35-28 victory in Wise on Oct. 2, 2021.

The team will then travel to Jefferson City, Tennessee, on Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. to face Carson Newman for the second straight season in Burke-Tarr Stadium. Last season's meeting saw the teams play close, but a 21-3 second quarter by the Eagles proved to be the difference as they held on for the 35-23 win. The Eagles were the SAC runner-up last year and ended their season with a loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. C-N leads the all-time series 5-1, with the Cavs' 33-7 win coming in Wise on Sept. 25, 2021.

Limestone comes to Wise for the penultimate home game of the season on Nov. 1. The two teams last met on Sept. 23, 2023 in Wise, where the Saints marched out with the 38-17 win. LU leads the all-time series 5-0. Kick-off for this game will be at 2 p.m.

The Cavs will then hit the road for the final time in the 2025 regular season as they make the trip down US 23/I-26 to face Mars Hill in Meares Stadium on Nov. 8. The Lions won last season's meeting in Wise 31-17 and lead the all-time series 11-1. The time for that game has not yet been determined.

UVA Wise then returns home to close out the regular season in a Nov. 15 Senior Day meeting against arch-rival Emory & Henry. The two teams will face off for the eighth time (and fourth time as SAC opponents) with the Wasps leading the series 6-1.

------------
The team opened their Spring practice on March 22, and will practice three days a week until April 26, when they will close out the Spring with the Red vs. Gray Spring Game at 2 p.m.

Prior to the game, they will hold a Youth Camp at 11:30 a.m.

There will be several community and fan events and festivities set around the game. More information about those will be released closer to the date.
