Baseball Ranked Ninth in NCBWA Southeast Region Poll; First Regional Ranking Since 2016

WINGATE, NC – After back-to-back series wins over Wingate and Lincoln Memorial, the UVA Wise baseball team is ranked ninth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Southeast Region Poll.

This is the first time the Highland Cavaliers have been ranked in the Southeast Region Poll since moving to the region in 2019 and is the third week in program history that they have been ranked in a NCAA Division II Regional Poll. They were ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region Poll in March 7, 2016 and fell a spot to tenth the week later before dropping out of the poll.

The ninth place ranking ties for the highest with that first week in 2016.

The Highland Cavaliers are off to one of the best, if not the best, starts in program history as they opened the season 9-0 and have since taken two out of three in South Atlantic Conference series at Wingate and against LMU on Stallard Field.

In this week's poll, North Greenville holds the top place (and also tops the national poll), Catawba is second, Lenoir Rhyne third, and Carson-Newman fourth. Those three teams rank 11th, 17th, and 21st respectively.

Young Harris is fifth, followed by Mount Olive, Flagler, and Belmont Abbey. UVA Wise is ninth, followed by North Georgia. Other SAC teams receiving votes are Coker and Newberry.

The team returns to action Friday as they make the short drive to Meadowview, Virginia, to face Emory & Henry for a three-game SAC series.
