WISE – The UVA Wise men's basketball team sent their seniors out in style as they overcame a double-digit deficit to force overtime and then outlast Wingate 94-85 in an instant classic Saturday afternoon on the Quillen Court.
The team is now tied with Coker for fourth place in the South Atlantic Conference standings with two games to go, but Coker holds the head-to head tiebreaker.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wingate opened the game on a 16-2 run and held a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the first half, ending the period with a 34-19 lead.

Bradley Dean hit a three-pointer to open the second half and sparked a 10-0 run that cut the lead to five points with 17:59 to go. They then cut the deficit to 38-34 via a
Zy'Ever Wingfield layup. Wingate extended the lead back to eleven points and the teams essentially traded baskets over the next six minutes, though the Cavs methodically cut into the lead over that stretch, getting it to one point with 8:23 remaining.
- A three-pointer by Dean gave the Cavs their first lead of the game with 6:43 left, but the Bulldogs went back ahead by four points before baskets by
Patrick Shelley and free throws by Dean tied the game again. Once again, the Bulldogs regained the lead and led by four with 2:05 left in the game before five points by Shelley tied the game at 77-77 and forced overtime.
- Shelley kept up his scoring run, and gave the Cavs the lead to open the extra period. The teams traded baskets for the next three minutes before Dean hit a big three-pointer, followed by a pair of free throws to give UVA Wise the 92-83 lead. Both teams hit a pair of free throws down the stretch, but in the end the Cavs prevailed 94-85.
- The loss spoiled an impressive outing for Wingate senior Kendall Taylor, who had 44 points off of 11-24 shooting from the field and an unheard of 20-20 from the free throw line. Two other Bulldogs scored in double figures, including Jordan Miller who had 16 points and a game-high10 rebounds.
GETTING WISE

Bradley Dean scored 29 points in his final game played in Southwest Virginia, going 7-15 from the field, 6-12 from behind the arc, and a perfect 9-9 from free throw range. He also had a game-high seven assists.

Patrick Shelley scored 18 points and had eight rebounds and three assists.

Evan Ramsey narrowly missed another double-double as he had 17 points and nine rebounds.
- Senior
Lav Cvetkovic' scored 10 points, had six rebounds and had four assists in his final game in the Prior Center.
- Rebounds were a key as the Cavs won the battle of the boards by a 46-34 margin, which converted into 18 second chance points.
UP NEXT
The Cavs will close out the regular season on the road at Tusculum on Wednesday and Catawba on Saturday. They will then prepare for the South Atlantic Conference Tournament, which will be held in early March in Rock Hill, SC.
