NEWBERRY, SC – The UVA Wise women's basketball team fell at Newberry 70-68 on a buzzer-beater Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cavs opened up with a 12-2 run and led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter.
- UVA Wise extended the lead to double digits in the second quarter and held that advantage until a late Newberry run cut the lead to six at the half.
- Newberry opened the third quarter by cutting the lead to three, but a late Cavalier surge had the lead back to ten with eight seconds remaining in the period.
- UVA Wise went cold from the field in the fourth quarter and Newberry took advantage and took the lead for the first time midway through the quarter. The lead then switched between the two until the Cavs had the ball with less than 30 seconds left and the score tied. They attempted a shot which fell short and Newberry got the ball to the other end quickly. They missed the first shot but managed to tip the ball in as time expired.
- Jess Tomkins led four Wolves in double figured with her 19 point outing. She also had a game-high eleven rebounds, including the game winner.
