Highland Cavaliers Fall at Carson-Newman, 84-58

JEFFERSON CITY, TN –  The Carson-Newman Eagles used a big first quarter run that UVA Wise was never able to overcome as they fell at Holt Fieldhouse Wednesday evening 84-58.

The loss is the first South Atlantic Conference loss of the season for UVA Wise.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles opened up in a press and used that to shoot out to a 9-0 lead. Five straight points by Caroline Mullins cut the lead to 12-19 before C-N had another run to extend their lead to fourteen. A three-pointer by Shelby Higgins and a layup by cheek helped the Highland Cavs cut into the deficit, but a late layup gave C-N the 27-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- C-N started the second quarter with another big run that extended their lead to 24 and they went on the lead 49-24 at the half.
- The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter, with the Cavs unable to make up any ground on the Eagles.
- The Cavs outscored the Eagles 21-18 in the fourth quarter as the Cavs made a couple of runs sparked by Mia Nienaber, Alissa Cheek, and Grace Vyborny. The Eagles then went on to take the 84-58 win.

GETTING WISE
- Caroline Mullins led all players with 18 points and eight rebounds. The reigning SAC Player of the Week also had three steals and went 5-5 at the free throw line.
- Mia Nienaber had eleven points and three rebounds.
- Alissa Cheek scored ten points and had two rebounds and two assists.
- Chloe Heath and Jennifer Sullivan had 14 points each for C-N.

UP NEXT
The Cavs will step out of conference for one final time this season as they close out the pre-Christmas portion of the schedule with a visit to former Mountain East Conference rival Glenville State. Tip-off is set for 3:00 p.m. in Glenville, West Virginia.
