ROCK HILL, SC – For the second time this season, UVA Wise sophomore forward
Caroline Mullins has been named the WePlayed Sports South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week. Conference officials made the announcement earlier today.
Last week, the Jasper, Georgia, native led the Highland Cavaliers to a 2-0 week with SAC wins over Emory & Henry and Lenoir-Rhyne. The team improved to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the SAC with the wins. The 4-0 SAC start is the best conference start for UVA Wise since the 2005-06 season.
She averaged 23.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks a game last week. Against E&H, she had 28 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks while shooting 10-21 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range, and 6-7 from the free throw line while playing all 40 minutes. In the overtime win over Lenoir-Rhyne she scored 18 points, had nine rebounds, and dished out five assists in 43 minutes of action. In that game she went 4-6 from the field, and 10-15 from the free throw line.
Mullins currently leads the SAC in points (185), field goals (63-128), and defensive rebounds (71). She ranks second in points per game (20.6), total rebounds (95), and rebounds per game (10.6). Mullins also ranks eleventh nationally in defensive rebounds and free throw attempts, fifteenth in free throws, seventeenth in points per game, and eighteenth in total rebounds.
This is the second time this season and her career that Mullins has earned SAC Player of the Week honors. The previous time was on November 17 and Mullins also was named the WBCA/D2CIDA National Player of the Week that week.
She joins some elite UVA Wise company in being named SAC Player of the Week twice in a season as only
Sable Burnside (2024-25) and
Caitlyn Ross (2023-24) have achieved that feat to date. The last Highland Cavalier to earn Player of the Week honors three times in a season was Sarah Helton, who earned Appalachian Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors three times in 2006-07.
The team will make the short trip to Jefferson City, Tennessee, to play Carson-Newman in a big SAC tilt Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m. The Cavs are currently tied for first in the SAC with Coker and the Eagles are tied for third.
