JEFFERSON CITY, TN – The UVA Wise men's basketball team opened the SAC vs. Conference Carolinas Challenge by shooting 52.9 percent from the field as they bested the Lees-McRae Bobcats 97-82 Saturday evening in Holt Fieldhouse.
The Cavaliers capitalized on strong shooting, hitting 10 three-pointers and converting 25 of 34 free throw attempts in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game commenced with a fast-paced exchange, as Lees-McRae's Dwight Canady Jr. scored an early layup, quickly matched by
Evan Ramsey's free throws to tie the score. The Highland Cavaliers gained momentum with
Yoro Diallo's three-pointer at 19:03 and continued to build a lead, highlighted by a 7-0 run featuring baskets from Ramsey and
Patrick Shelley. The Bobcats attempted to counter with a three-pointer from Cedric Patterson at 14:50, but Wise extended their advantage to 42-24 following consecutive three-point shots by
Calen Lightford and
Max Lidman. The half concluded with a fastbreak layup by Diallo, securing a 53-37 lead for the Cavs at the break.
- Lees-McRae edged out UVA Wise in the second half, scoring 45 points to the Cavs' 44. Early in the half,
Yoro Diallo hit a three-pointer off a fast break, extending the Cavs' lead. However, Lees-McRae's Cedric Patterson kept the visitors competitive with consistent scoring, including a crucial three-pointer at the 10:16 mark. The Bobcats would cut the lead to eight, but the Cavs quickly shut the door with a 5-0 run that out the game away,
GETTING WISE
- Ramsey just missed out on a double-double as he had nine rebounds in addition to his team-high 20 points. He also shot 70 percent from the floor.

Yoro Diallo did have a double-double as he had 16 points and ten rebounds in addition to six assists and two blocks.
- Shelley scored 14 points and had three assists.

Anderson Cummins chipped in eleven points and had two steals.
