Cavs Journey to Hickory to Face Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday Afternoon

WISE – The UVA Wise football team returns to South Atlantic Conference play as they hit the road to face Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday at 3 p.m.

This is the first meeting between the two since the 2023 season and will be the fifth time the two have played. The Bears lead the series 3-1.

GETTING WISE
Jake Corkren is 109-212-8 on the season with 1,240 yards (206.7 per game) and six touchdowns.
- Sophomore Daniel Thomas leads the SAC in rushing yards per game and is fourth in rushing touchdowns. He has 716 yards on 137 carries (5.2 yards a carry) and eight touchdowns. Corkren has 75 yards on 29 carries for two touchdowns, while Andon Rogers has 22 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown.
DJ Powell is fourth in the SAC in receiving yards a game with 77.5. He has 40 catches for 465 yards and a touchdown. Peyton McClanahan has 16 catches for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while Kahlil Jones has 12 receptions for 193 yards and a touchdown.
Brub Hines III leads the team in tackles with 41. Matt Strong has 38 tackles and Jalen Pickens has 30.
- As a team the Cavs have 123 first downs to 126 by their opponents, while they are out-rushing opponents by a 162.7-154.7 yards a game margin.

ABOUT L-R
- The Bears were ranked as high as 17th earlier this season and were picked to win the SAC in the Preseason Coaches Poll, but since escaping Emory & Henry with a game-winning field goal as time expired they have lost three out of their last four games and currently stand at 3-4 overall and 2-3 in SAC play.
- Team-wise they are out-passing their opponents (246.8 ypg – 206.57) but are being our-rushed by a 188.7-133.1 margin.
- Khamoni Robinson is the main quarterback going 102-164-4 for 1,503 yards and eleven TDs. He is also one of the top rushers on the team, carrying the ball 60 times for 252 yards and five TDs. He ranks second in the SAC in passing yards a game and fifth in touchdowns.
- Zayvion Turner-Knox leads the Bears on the ground with 77 rushes for 291 yards and a touchdown. Alex Boyd (29-112) and LJ Turner (25-136) are also other key rushers.
- Zion Agnew (27 receptions for 442 yards and three touchdowns) and Songa Yates (21-428-4) lead a deep receiving corps. Thomas Destun also has 25 catches for 361 yards.
- Ben Watson (52 tackles) and Tre'Von Cooper (46) lead the team defensively. Maddox Aprile has 32 tackles and four sacks for 43 yards. He ranks second in the SAC in sacks. Desmond Greene and James Ussary have 31 tackles apiece.

UP NEXT
The team will stay on the road and make the short trip to Jefferson City for a meeting with Carson-Newman on Oct. 25. This is the second season in a row that the two have played in Burke-Tarr Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
