Carson-Newman Downs UVA Wise, 101-76

 
 JEFFERSON CITY, TN – A pair of first half runs put the Carson-Newman Eagles ahead of the UVA Wise men's basketball team. They then held off repeated UVA Wise comeback efforts to take the 101-76 South Atlantic Conference win Wednesday evening.

The loss snaps a five game win streak by UVA Wise, dating back to December 16.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The team opened the game with a three-pointer each. The Eagles then went on a 10-0 run and held that advantage over the next few minutes. A layup by Calen Lightford cut the lead to 31-28 with 7:58 left. C-N then made another run to pull back ahead by thirteen with 1:54 remaining. The Cavs then had baskets by Zy'Ever Wingfield, Kolier Pruett, and Lav Cvetkovic' to make the score 50-43 at the half.
- Carson-Newman opened the second half on an 11-2 run to go ahead by sixteen with 16:34 left in the half. Wingfield then helped spark a run by UVA Wise to cut the lead to 61-55 with 14:39 remaining. Over the rest of the half the Eagles would score around 8-10 points, the Cavs would cut the lead down a few points, and then the cycle would repeat. The Eagles would eventually extend the lead to 101-76 and take the win.
- All eight Carson-Newman players who played scored, with five scoring in double figures. John Zhao led all scorers with 30 points, including seven three-pointers.  Trey Hubbard had 19 points, Matt Bilbrey scored 15, Braden Ilic added in 13, and Jack Browder scored 11.
- For the game, C-N shot 58.6 percent from the field, and 56.0 percent from the behind the arc as they hit fourteen three-pointers.

GETTING WISE
- Zy'Ever Wingfield led the Cavs with 21 points, Patrick Shelley added in 14, and Bradley Dean had 10 points.
- Evan Ramsey led the team in rebounds (13), assists (5), and blocks (3).

UP NEXT
The Cavs return home this weekend to host Anderson Saturday at 4 p.m. The Trojans are 10-6 overall and 6-6 in SAC play after falling by four to Lenoir-Rhyne earlier this evening.
