Cavs Overpower Trojans, 72-65

WISE – After an early start with several ties and lead changes, the UVA Wise men's basketball team grabbed the lead late in the first half and never looked back in the 72-65 South Atlantic Conference victory over Anderson Saturday evening on the Quillen Court.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Trojans grabbed the early five point lead before Evan Ramsey's layup sparked a run that gave the Cavs the 7-6 lead with 14:39 left in the half. The teams traded leads and had several ties over the next eleven minutes before back-to-back baskets by Anderson Cummins put UVA Wise ahead by six. The Trojans would cut the lead in half late before baskets by Max Lidman and Zy'Ever Wingfield put the Highland Cavaliers ahead by nine, 35-26, at the half.
- UVA Wise would grab their largest lead of the game to open the second half via a layup by Lav Cvetkovic'. The Trojans then put together an 8-2 run to cut the lead to 38-34 with 15:50 remaining. The closest that Anderson would get down the stretch would be 46-43 with 10:50 left before the Cavs extended the lead back to double digits with less than five minutes in the game. UVA Wise would hit seven of eight free throws in the final 1:05 to seal the 72-65 victory.
- Andre Wright Jr led AU with 13 points and seven assists, while Dallas Jones had 10 points.

GETTING WISE
- Zy'Ever Wingfield's 17 point, seven rebound, and five assist performance led the Cavs for the game.
- Evan Ramsey added in 13 points, and Patrick Shelley scored ten points.
- UVA Wise shot 47.9% for the game and held Anderson to 37.9%. They also out-shot the Trojans 36.8%-21.7% from behind the arc and they hit an impressive 82.6% from the free throw line, compared to 62.5% by Anderson.

UP NEXT
The Cavs host Tusculum Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. on the Quillen Court. The Pioneers are currently 4-13 overall and 4-9 in SAC play after downing Coker 106-91 earlier today.
