BLUEFIELD, W.V. – Bluefield State broke open a tie game in the bottom of the sixth inning and went on to claim the 13-5 victory Wednesday evening at Bowen Field.
The game was originally scheduled to be part of a doubleheader but weather and field conditions caused the game to be pushed back and the series shortened to one game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blues took an early lead with a two run single in the bottom of the first inning.

Collier Elkins cut the lead in half in the next inning as he scored on a RBI single from
Matt Frye.
- Bluefield State extended the lead with a three run home run from Korbin Bostic.
- The Highland Cavaliers tied the game as they picked up two runs in the fourth from RBI singles from
Jacob Boyle and Frye and two more in the fifth from a
Cole Harness home run and another RBI single from Boyle.
- Another three run homer by the Big Blues put Bluefield State ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth. They would tack on five more in the eighth and hold on for the 13-5 win.
GETTING WISE
- Harness tied the single-season home run record with his sixteenth home run of the season. That ties Tyler Campbell's total from the 2022 season.
- Frye led the Cavs with three hits and two RBI. Boyle had two hits, a run, and two RBI. Harness also chipped in two hits and a run.
- Badgett and Harness teamed up for two double plays in the game for the third time this season.
UP NEXT
UVA Wise travels to Greeneville, Tennessee, for a South Atlantic Conference series with Tusculum University this weekend. First pitch for Friday's single game is set for 6 pm at Pioneer Park. The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday.
