#15 WINGATE GETS PAST UVA WISE, 17-7

WISE – Fifteenth-ranked Wingate used a second half run to pull away from the homestanding UVA Wise lacrosse team for the 17-7 South Atlantic Conference win on a very foggy Saturday afternoon.

FIRST QUARTER:
- Wingate scored first with a solo goal by Emily Blakely.
- The Highland Cavaliers answered back a few minutes later as Logen Davis found Abby Stoffelen and the junior found the back of the net for her 19th goal of the season.
- After a pair of Bulldog goals, Issie Brown scored her eighth goal of the season from the pass by Grace Golatt to cut the lead to 3-2.

SECOND QUARTER:
- Wise took the 4-3 lead following a pair of goals from Kaylea Paterson and Noley Hiller.
- Wingate would pull ahead with four goals over the next nine minutes to make the lead 7-4.
- Paterson would add another goal with 2:49 remaining in the half, but the Bulldogs would score twice more in the final 1:30 to take the 9-5 lead into halftime.

THIRD QUARTER:
- Wingate would outscore the Cavs 5-1 to extend the lead to 14-6.
- Lauren Cole scored the goal for the Cavs down this stretch, her second goal of the season.

FOURTH QUARTER:
- Wingate scored twice to start the final frame, using a lot of clock in the process.
- A goal by Hiller off a pass from Paterson cut the lead to 17-6, but the Bulldogs would score once more down the stretch to claim the 17-7 win.

GETTING WISE:
- Paterson led UVA Wise with two goals and an assist off of six shots. She also had a ground ball.
- Hiller also scored two goals, in addition to a ground ball and causing one turnover.
- Gollatt and Mallory Trimble each won three draws to lead the team.
- Wingate was led by Nelida Watson and Leah Knowles with four goals apiece. Knowles also won nine draws to lead all players.

UP NEXT
UVA Wise (4-6. 1-3 SAC) continues their SAC homestand this Wednesday when local rival Emory & Henry comes to Wise for the first meeting between the Cavs and the Wasps, who are in their first season of competition. First draw is set for 4 p.m. at Beaty Richmond Field at Carl Smith Stadium.
