HICKORY, N.C. – The UVA Wise tennis teams wrapped up Spring Break with weekend conference matches at Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne.
MEN
- UVA Wise claimed wins at the number one and number three flights in a 5-2 loss at Anderson.
- In doubles play,
Daniel Gonzalez Garza and
Pierre Djaroueh in the second flight and
Gustavo Marangoni and
Diego Pedrero in the third flight lost close 6-4 matches as AU claimed the point.
- Anderson won four of six singles flights to take the 5-2 win. Djaroueh was narrowly bested 7-5, 7-5 at the no. 6 spot while
Hsin-Nuo Hsieh's match at no. 5 needed a tiebreaker set as he lost 6-0, 1-6, 10-4.

Miguel De Rueda picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win in the second flight; and
Yi-Hsuan Chen claimed a victory in the first flight by an injury retirement in the tiebreaker set, 5-7, 7-5, ret.
- Sunday's match at Lenoir-Rhyne also ended in a 5-2 result. Gonzalez Garza and Pedrero claimed a 6-1 win in the second flight but soon afterward L-R claimed the point with wins in the first and third flights.
- The Highland Cavs were down 2-0 before Chen claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win in the first flight to make the lead 2-1. The Bears then picked up two points and the match victory with wins at no. 5, 4, and 2. Pedrero claimed the other match point for the Cavs with his 6-3, 6-4 win at the sixth flight.
WOMEN
- Anderson took the match on Saturday 7-0.
Constanca Azinhaga and
Antonella Campodonico narrowly lost 7-5 in the no. 1 doubles flight; while Campodonico also had a close 6-3, 6-4 loss in the first singles flight.
- At Lenoir-Rhyne on Sunday the match also resulted in a 7-0 loss for the Cavs. The Bears claimed all three doubles flights by 6-3 margins.
Christina Korakopoulou had a hard-fought 6-4, 6-1 loss at no. 3; while
Amelia Monteith fell in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Both teams have a few days off before hosting local rival Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
