SOFTBALL FINISHES SPRING BREAK TRIP WITH WINS AT FLAGLER AND USC BEAUFORT

BLUFFTON, S.C. – The UVA Wise softball team wrapped up their Spring Break trip Wednesday and Thursday as they took a game apiece from Flagler and USC Beaufort.
The Highland Cavaliers dropped Wednesday's game one against Flager 9-0 in St, Augustine, Florida, before rallying to take the second game 7-5. On Thursday they exploded offensively in the 11-1 win over USC Beaufort before falling 3-2 to the Sand Sharks as a seventh inning rally falls short.

VS. FLAGLER:
- The Saints picked up three runs in the first inning and added insurance runs in the second and fourth innings to take the 9-0 win.
- Adyson Gibson and Mallory McKnight had UVA Wise's two hits in the contest.
- In game two the Cavs grabbed the early four run lead and added three more runs in the third before holding off a late Saints rally to grab the 7-5 victory.
- UVA Wise had six hits in the contest. Sarah Barrett led the way with a run, two hits and three RBI while Kara Long also tallied a run and two hits. Brie Frazier and Gibson added in two runs apiece.
- Alivia Nolley earned the pitching victory, while Jillian Jones came in as a closer to help seal the victory.

VS. USC BEAUFORT
- The Cavs took advantage of game one miscues by the Sand Sharks to grab the 8-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  The bases were loaded with two outs when McKnight singled to right field, driving in Frazier and Gibson.
- Savannah Johnson then stepped up to the plate and blasted a three-run home run over the right field fence to give Wise the 5-0 lead. It was Johnson's first career home run. Frazier later doubled and drove in Gibson and Mataya Ausmus to extend the lead.
- After USCB scored in the bottom of the third inning the Cavs used runs from Frazier, Long, and Barrett to extend the lead to 11-1.
- Six UVA Wise players tallied hits in the game, while Jones pitched a complete-game gem as she gave up only one run and three hits while fanning two batters.
- The offenses for both teams were slow to get going, with the Sand Sharks grabbing the lead off of a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third inning. USCB then scored twice more in the bottom of the sixth inning from a sacrifice fly and a single to left field.
- UVA Wise made a rally in the top of the seventh with pinch hitter Kendra Huff crossing the plate  and Emma McCauley later scoring from third on a wild pitch. The Cavs had a runner on third but were unable to get her home as USCB held on for the 3-2 win.
- McCauley led the way with a run and two hits; with Huff, Gibson and Barrett adding in a hit each.
