LACROSSE NETS KEY 10-8 SAC WIN AT LENOIR-RHYNE

HICKORY, N.C. – The UVA Wise Highland Cavalier lacrosse team used a key third quarter run to grab the 10-8 come from behind South Atlantic Conference victory over Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday afternoon.
The win was the third in a row in the all-time series for UVA Wise (4-5, 1-2 SAC) and the fifth out of the last six meetings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bears took a 2-0 lead via a pair of goals from Rylie McGhan.
- Abby Stoffelen put the Cavs on the board with 1:15 remaining in the quarter.
 - Goals by Noley Hiller and Mallory Trimble then gave UVA Wise the 3-2 lead. L-R then picked up a pair of goals to take the 4-3 lead into halftime.
- Two goals by Trimble and a goal by Kaylea Peterson sparked a run that put UVA Wise ahead by two before the Bears evened up the game at 6-6 with 7:24 left in the third period.
- The teams traded goals before Trimble picked up her third goal of the game late in the quarter to put the Cavs ahead for good.
 - Insurance goals by Caitlyn Schultz and Stoffelen counteracted a fourth quarter goal by Lenoir-Rhyne's Jolan Morey to give UVA Wise the 10-8 win.
 
GETTING WISE:
- Stoffelen led the way with four goals, improving her total to 16 goals on the season. Trimble chipped in a hat trick to improve her season total to 18 goals.
- Hiller improved to four assists on the season with her two in this contest. Stoffelen and Issie Brown each picked up an assist.
- Olivia Toomer went the distance in cage, with seven saves.
- UVA Wise out shot the Bears 28-25, had the 18-17 advantage in ground balls, and won 13 draws compared to nine by L-R.
 
UP NEXT:
The team returns home and has ten days off before hosting Wingate on March 23.
