MONTEVALLO, ALA. – The Cavalier baseball team (3-5, 0-0 SAC) went through an offensive lull in its series finale at No. 24 Montevallo (4-3, 0-0 GSC) Saturday afternoon.
It took the Cavs 7.2 innings before they got their first hit of the game which came from senior outfielder Justin Reed. The base knock did score one run, but by then the Cavs were trailing 14-1.
Senior first baseman Cole Harness headlined the game in the next bat.
Reed's bases loaded single kept the bases juiced for Harness, who belted his fifth home run of the season.
Harness is now batting .333 (9-for-27) at the plate this year and has tallied five homers and 14 RBIs. He's launched a long ball in four of the eight Cavalier games played this season and only sits nine home runs shy of the UVA Wise program record for career home runs.
The Cavs got a pair of runs added to the board in the ninth inning when Reed roped a double to left center.
With Reed's three RBIs Saturday, he now totals 13 already this season and has failed to record an RBI in just two of eight games.
The Cavs now return home for a Tuesday afternoon showdown with King. The two teams met just days ago and the Cavs put up 16 runs with half of them coming in the seventh inning to take down the Tornado, 16-8.
First pitch on Tuesday, Feb. 13 is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Wise from Stallard Field.
