WISE – A pair of runs by Newberry allowed the Wolves to grab the lead in the fourth quarter and hold off the UVA Wise women's basketball team as Newberry grabbed the 58-52 lead on a cold Wednesday evening in Wise.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams were tied at 4-4 when a basket by
Makenzie Bremer sparked a 7-2 run. The Cavs extended it to 17-8 on a layup by
Katlin Burger with 1:48 left in the quarter.
- Newberry cut the lead to 17-13 but then a three-pointer by
Sable Burnside and a floater by
Alissa Cheek put the lead back to nine. The Wolves cut the lead to 22-19 late in the half, but
Ella Karst stole the ball and made the layup with 25 seconds left, then stole the ball again on the next Newberry possession and found Burger open in the paint. She then hit the basket as time expired to give the Cavs the 26-19 lead at the half.
- Cheek opened the third quarter with a three-pointer to put the Cavs up by ten points, but then UVA Wise went cold from the floor over the next three minutes and the Wolves took advantage, cutting the score to 30-27. The Cavs would extend the lead back to six, but then have another cold spell over the final 3:17 and once again the Wolves took advantage, tying the game at 35-35 with less than a second left.
- UVA Wise would take the lead again by four, 41-37, but the Wolves would come back and tie the game once again. The teams swapped leads over the next several minutes before the Cavs went cold again and Hannah Nimmo scored the final six points of the game, breaking a 52-52 tie with 2:40 remaining to give the Wolves the 58-52 win.
- Nimmo finished the game with 19 points to lead all players, and Jess Tomkins added in 16. Tomkins and Ella Pearson led the team with seven rebounds each.
GETTING WISE
- Bremer and Burger led the Cavs with 12 points apiece. Burger also had eight rebounds and Bremer seven.

Macie Ridge had six assists, while
Ella Karst had three steals.
UP NEXT
The Cavs will have a quick turnaround and play at Anderson Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Trojans are 5-6 overall and 3-4 in SAC play after handing Coker their first loss of the season tonight with the 81-78 win.
