WISE – After defeating Tusculum last Saturday afternoon, the UVA Wise football team will now turn their attention to the game that local fans have had marked on their calendars for months – the Southwest Virginia Bowl game against Emory & Henry.

The Highland Cavaliers are 3-5 overall and 2-4 in SAC play after the 35-27 win over Tusculum.

ABOUT UVA WISE
- With his big day of going 27-39 for 369 yards and three touchdowns, Cooper Wick was named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He is the first UVA Wise player to earn player of the week honors this season. He currently is 46-74-4 for 560 yards and three touchdowns on the season.
- Dorien Goddard leads the team in receptions as he has 42 for 371 yards and three touchdowns, while Seth Fischbach is second with 34 catches for 407 yards and two touchdowns.
- Ian Scammell has rushed for 387 yards on 90 carries and has scored four touchdowns. Dejauvis Dozier has had 81 carries for 338 yards and a touchdown.
- Brub Hines III has 51 tackles and Jalen Pickes has 45 to lead the team. Three Cavalier players (Jimmie Simmons, Kenneth Long, and Emmanuel Scott) have two sacks apiece.
- UVA Wise has generated 320.8 yards per game of total offense, compared to 430.5 by their opponents. In rushing their opponents hold a 220.5-106.5 margin, while in passing the Cavs are throwing for 214.3 yards a game and the opposition is throwing for 210.0 yards a game.

- The Wasps enter Southwest Virginia Bowl VII leading the series 5-1. In their last meeting, they pulled out the 41-25 win in Wise on Oct. 7. 2023. The Wasps and Cavs were evenly matched through most of the contest, with the main difference being two kickoffs returned for touchdowns by the Wasps.
- This season the Wasps came into last weeks meeting with Mars Hill being ranked nationally for the first time since they joined the NCAA Division II and also leading the SAC's Mountain Division. Mars Hill took advantage of a 17-0 lead and four Wasp turnovers to swat the Wasps 31-23. With the loss, the Wasps drop to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the SAC.
- E&H are averaging 369.2 yards a game (142.2 rushing and 227.0 passing) and are averaging 30.1 points a game. They are allowing 287.1 yards a game (104.3 rushing and 182.8 passing) and 15.1 points a game.
- Charles Mutter III is the main quarterback as he has thrown for 92-174 for 1,433 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
- The leading rusher is Jordan Jackson, who has 902 yards on 183 carries and five touchdowns.
- Cam Abshire is averaging 20.7 yards a catch and has nine receiving touchdowns on the season, while Cam Peoples averages 14.0 yards a catch and has six touchdowns.
