WISE — UVA Wise shortstop
Kara Long was named the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) First-Team shortstop, the organization announced today at 3:00 PM.
From Lebanon, Va., Long snagged a new single-season program record this past spring with a .450 batting average while also tacking on a new school record of a .529 on-base percentage. Additionally, her .710 slugging percentage was the third-highest of any player in any single season in UVA Wise softball program history. Long was a tough hitter to strike out this past season — and her numbers prove it. Long struck out just five times all season as she reached base safely in 40-of-42 games. On the dirt, the shortstop put up a .950 fielding percentage.
Adding on to her honor from VaSID, her accomplishments have earned her the title of UVA Wise Female Athlete of the Year and NFCA Division II Southeast Region Second-Team shortstop.
