CAVS CONTINUE DOMINANCE OF WASPS ON DIAMOND

WISE - - UVA Wise continued its dominance of Southwest Virginia rival Emory & Henry in baseball with an 11-7 victory at Stallard Field Tuesday. It was the 16th win for the Cavaliers in the last 17 meetings between the two schools that are separated by 59 miles.

UVA Wise (13-20) led wire-to-wire in the win as Brandon Costa's club lined 14 hits, seven of which were extra-base hits in the victory.

The Cavaliers struck for three runs in the home first as D'Sean Prinkleton, Cole Harness and Hunter Meador had an RBI each to stake the hosts to the early lead.

After DJ Dickson doubled home Nick Badgett in the second to put UVA Wise in front 4-0, Emory and Henry (8-24) got on the board when Mason Lyda belted a solo homer to center field in the third inning.

The momentum for the Wasps would be short-lived as the Cavs scored in each of the game's first six innings.

Jeb Hurts had an RBI groundout in the third before Meador scored on a wild pitch to push the advantage to 6-1.

An inning later, Prinkleton and Harness belted back-to-back homers to make it a seven-run affair.

The lead swelled to double digits when Badgett scored on an error in the fifth and Hurst scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to make it 11-1.

E&H scored the game's final six runs as Cole Cunning, Tyler Bradle and Lydia had RBI but Nash Bingham would record the final out to preserve the win.

Jake Taylor picked up his second mound win of the season as he tossed the game's first two innings, striking out two and allowing a hit.

Badgett finished 4-for-4 with a trio of runs scored while Dickson, Hurst and Prinkleton added two hits each to lead an offensive effort that saw eight Cavs record at least one hit.

The homer by Harness means the nation's RBI leader has now homered in three consecutive games. Harness now has 11 homers and 51 RBI on the season.

UVA Wise has now won 4-of-5 entering its weekend set with Lenoir-Rhyne while E&H has dropped eight consecutive contests.
