MOCKSVILLE, N.C. - - UVA Wise first baseman Cole Harness made history Tuesday as he tied a single-game South Atlantic Conference record with 10 RBI as his Cavaliers scored a 24-10 victory over host Carolina University at Rich Park. The 10 RBI tie a mark that is also held by Carson-Newman's Ryan Addington who ironically accomplished the feat against UVA Wise in 2017.
It was evident from the start that it would be a big day for Harness who went 4-for-4 in UVA Wise's (3-10) 8-5 win in the opener.
The Coeburn, Va. product had a run-scoring double in the third inning of the day's first game before a fourth-inning RBI triple  put Carolina (4-7) in a five-run hole.
In what was an explosive offensive day, the Cavs lined 10 hits in game one. Matt Frye lined his first homer in a UVA Wise uniform while Hunter Meador also homered for the visitors.
Freshman Braden Hamilton recorded his first collegiate mound win. The Fredericksburg, Va. native fanned three over 3 2/3 innings of work as he did not allow a run and scattered two hits in the relief outing.
Ryan Whitson picked up his first save of 2023 by recording the game's final out with the tying run at the plate as the Cavs halted a two-game losing skid.
Meador finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored to aid Harness' big offensive game while D'Sean Prinkleton posted two RBI and a stolen bag.
If not for game two being halted after five innings of play due to the 10-run rule, the offensive numbers put forth by Harness and his teammates may have been even more astonishing.
UVA Wise homered seven times, lined two doubles and a triple in its five trips to the plate.
Prinkleton homered twice for his first two collegiate round-trippers with Micah Hill and Dakota Sisson each producing their first UVA Wise homers.
The 21 hits by the Cavs were the most this season while the 24 runs are the most for the program since joining NCAA Division II.
Hill (4), Prinkleton (3), Reed (3), Morgan Miller (2) and Sisson (2) joined Harness as UVA Wise players with multiple RBI in the win.
A total of 13 Cavs had a plate appearance in the game and all 13 reached base safely.
David Kelliher recorded the mound win by firing two innings of scoreless relief. The right-hander fanned four and did not allow a hit as he improved to 1-0 on the year.
Brandon Costa's team will open SAC play this weekend with a three-game set at Tusculum. Game one is slated for Friday night.
