WISE, VA — The UVA Wise volleyball team look to start conference play off with a win as they head to Emory, Va. to play new South Atlantic Conference (SAC) contenders Emory & Henry Wasps on Tuesday, Sep. 6.

If the win is secured, it would be the first conference match win for the Cavaliers since Oct. 20, 2018 (vs. Glenville State, 3-0).

- UVA Wise dropped their first match of the season in the Concord Classic finale against Concord by a score of 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 20-25) on Friday
- Prior to the loss, thee Cavs' 3-0 record was the best start in the NCAA Division II era of the UVA Wise volleyball program
- Senior Adison Minor was named to the 2022 Concord Classic All-Tournament Team with 17 kills in the three-match saga
- Sophomore Kaylee Scarce leads the team with 41 total kills, grabbing a career-best 14 kills against Bluefield State on Sep. 1 in the tournament
- As a team, the Cavs are averaging a solid 11.1 kills per set (compared to opponents' 9.5 k/s)
 

NOTES ON EMORY & HENRY

- Head Coach Kyla King and the Wasps look to secure their first win of the 2022 season on Tuesday, going 0-6 including a loss to conference foe Limestone as of Sep. 2.
- in the Wasps' 2021 season, the team went 25-11 as a Division II Independent institution and won their last seven matches of the year
- Senior Carley Williams led Emory & Henry last year with a total 308 kills, placed on the 2022 Preseason ALL-SAC Third Team
- Emory & Henry only bring in four freshman (Gracyn Miller, Julissa Hopgood, Payton Rolfsen, Rylee Upton) on the 15-member squad
- As of Sep. 2, junior Brianna Hogan leads the Wasps with 45 total kills on the year (2.5 k/s) while junior Libby Bickelhaupt leads the team defensively with 56 total digs
 

HISTORY

-The last matchup between UVA Wise and Emory & Henry was Oct. 5, 2021; the Cavs won 3-2 (25-15, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 17-15).
