MEN'S TENNIS TAKE DOWN HORNETS IN FALL SEASON OPENER

WISE, VA — the UVA Wise men's tennis conquered the Lynchburg Hornets in a non-conference match this afternoon by a score of 6-1 at the Jim & Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.

The Cavaliers snagged two of three doubles matchups today, with veterans Dominic Hoffman and John Robert Kilgore taking a 6-2 win and freshman Dominik Thuri-Nagy and Fabian Segrada battling their way through a 6-4 win.

It was the #1 Doubles spot that caused the Cavaliers a bit of trouble, as Levi Vigdorchik and Lauren Muhlhause of the Hornets forced a tiebreaker against Miguel De Rueda and Vanja Vojinovic. Lynchburg was victorious in the tiebreak, winning 7-5.

Thuri-Nagy faced Vigdorchik in the #1 Singles spot and took the first set 6-3. Thuri-Nagy took the lead in the second set by a score of 7-6, and a forced-tiebreaker allowed the Cavalier to solidify the second set and overall matchup win 10-6.

#2 Singles saw De Rueda quickly take down Muhlhause in an 8-2 defeat, while #4 Singles-player Segrada took down his Lynchburg opponent by an identical score of 8-2.

In #6 Singles, Kilgore fell to opponent Dan Hardy by a hard-fought 8-5 score.

#3 and #5 Singles saw tiebreakers appear once again as Vojinovic won a forced 10-4 second superset, and Hoffman battling Christian Zepeda in three sets but ultimately ending victorious in a 10-3 win.
