CAVS FALL TO BLUEFIELD STATE IN FINAL MATCHUP

WISE, VA — In their final matchup of the 2022 season, the UVA Wise women's tennis team fell in a 6-1 battle against non-conference opponent Bluefield State on Sunday, April 24.

In doubles play, No. 1 singles partners Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko faced Shreya Chakrabarly and Juliana Jimenez, and although forced the tiebreaker, fell to the Blues 7-1.

Grace Hall and Lillian Morris were put up against Virginia Zanotti and Paula Saez-Raez in the No. 2 spot and fell by a score of 6-2.

In the final doubles matchup, Emily Conn and Sara Nichols were defeated by Victoria Cabral and Ghita Courdi by a close score of 6-4.

DOUBLES SCORES:

L. AKIMENKO/K. AKIMENKO vs. CHAKRABARLY/JIMENEZ (W): 7-6, (TB 7-1)

HALL/MORRIS vs. ZANOTTI/SAEZ-RAEZ (W): 6-2

CONN/NICHOLS vs. CABRAL/COURDI (W): 6-4

In singles play, L. Akimenko toughed out a win against Chakrabarly in a forced tiebreaker set, while sister K Akimenko found herself in a similar situation with opponent Jimenez. Jimenez was able to squeeze out the win by a 6-3 score.

Anna Hupperten faced Zanotti in the No. 3 spot and was only able to grab one game. Zanotti took the win by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

Sarah Moore and Saez-Raez battled over three sets in the No. 4 spot, but it would be Saez-Raez who would take the win in the final set by a score of 10-7.

In the final two matchups, Morris fell scoreless to Courdi and Hall fell by scores of 6-0 and 6-1 to opponent Cabral.
