WISE - - Queens secured a bye in next week's South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep over UVA Wise in baseball action at Stallard Field Saturday. The Royals won game one 9-3 before taking game two 9-7.
GAME ONE
SIX IN THE SIXTH
Queens busted open game one with a six-run sixth inning. The Royals struck for six runs on six hits while taking advantage of two errors
CAVS RUNS
Hunter Meador had an RBI groundout in the fourth while Bret Roberts and Justin Reed had RBI singles in the eighth inning to supply the runs.
BOX SCORE NOTES
Dillon Lewis went 4-for-5 at the plate for Queens while Carter Foster and Matt Riley each lined a pair of hits for the Royals. DJ Dickson was the only UVA Wise player to have multiple hits with two hits in defeat.
GAME TWO
CAVS SURGE ON TOP
A two-run first inning put UVA Wise in front 2-1 as Hunter Meador and D'Sean Prinkleton each knocked in a run.
EXTRA-BASE HITS PUT ROYALS ON TOP
A three-run homer by Nick Brassington put the Royals on top 4-3 in the third before a two-run homer by Nick Melton in the fourth made it 6-3. An inning later, Garrett Evans' RBI double made it a 7-3 affair.
UVA WISE COMEBACK
Clay Taylor singled home a pair of runs in the fifth frame to make it 7-5 before a run-scoring double by Cole Harness and an RBI single by Gavin Birkhimer tied the game in the sixth.
EXTRAS
Queens broke on top in the ninth inning of the scheduled seven-inning game as Mason Pickard and Evans knocked in a run to go in front 9-7.
UVA Wise would load the bases in the home half of the inning but would be unable to push across a run.

UVA Wise posted 18 wins, 13 wins more than the 2021 total.
