NEWBERRY, S.C., GAFFNEY, S.C.— The UVA Wise men's tennis team struggled against SAC opponents Newberry and Coker this weekend, taking the losses to the Wolves and the Cobras by scores of 7-0.
On Friday, April 1, The Cavs (4-15, 0-8 SAC) saw a close match between duo Coleton Burke and John Robert Kilgore against Lawrence Friedland and Marcel Schomberg in No. 2 double play. The Wolves came out on top, taking the match 6-4.
The Cavaliers weren't able to take a doubles match as the Wolves dominated the rest of the matches by 6-0, 6-0 in No 1 and No. 3 doubles.
Siddarth Selvakumar snagged two points against Newberry's Luke Layton in the No. 6 singles, but fell by a score of 8-2. Kilgore found himself with the same score against Enzo Blavignat in No. 4 singles.
The Wolves were able to hold the Cavs scoreless, 7-0.
On the second day of a conference-filled weekend for UVA Wise, the Cavaliers faced the Coker Cobras on April 2 and fell by an overall score of 7-0.
The duo of Kilgore and Burke once again put up a tough fight against opponents Bradley Bomar and Mitchell Davies in No. 2 doubles and took the win by a mere two games (6-4).
The Coker Cobras were able to snag two matches today due to a no-player in No. 3 doubles and in No. 6 singles.
The Cavaliers wouldn't score a point in the match, falling 7-0.
The UVA Wise men's tennis team is back in action against Mars Hill on April 10 at 2:00 PM.
