CAVS BLISTER NETS, TAKE OUT COBRAS

WISE - - UVA Wise shot a season-high 57.8 percent from the floor en route to a 79-63 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory over Coker inside the Prior Center Monday. With the win, the Cavaliers move to 8-10 in league play and hold the last spot in the upcoming conference tournament.

HOW IT STARTED

UVA Wise began the game with its best shooting quarter of the season. The Cavs made their first nine field goal attempts as part of a 10-for-12 shooting quarter. The strong shooting start was highlighted by redshirt senior Kalee Johnson who netted 12 points in the period to aid the hosts to a 24-18 lead.

TURNING UP THE D

After an explosive offensive first quarter, Jamie Cluesman's crew turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter. Coker was limited to just 16.7 percent shooting in the period while being hled to 11 points. While the defensive was on point, the offensive was still pouring in buckets. UVA Wise connected on 6-of-11 field goals in the second 10-minute session to aid the home team to a 42-29 lead at intermission.

PUTTING IT AWAY

UVA Wise put the game out of reach with its third quarter performance. In the period, the Cavs would push the lead to as many 20 points when Jaymi Golden drilled a 3-pointer later in the quarter.

BOX SCORE NUGGETS

Johnson finished with 28 points to lead a group of six Cavs with at least nine points. Caitlyn Ross tossed in 12, Nia Vanzant chipped in 11, Meg Crawford tallied 10 while Golden and Katlin Burger each scored nine points each.

UVA Wise made 23-of-26 free throws in the win but were out rebounded 40-to-27.
