WISE - - Anderson limited UVA Wise to 27 second half points en route to a 76-62 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball win over the Cavaliers at the Prior Center Saturday.
WHERE IT BEGAN
UVA Wise got off to a fast start behind the play of redshirt senior Kalee Johnson. Johson canned a trio of 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Cavaliers shot 46.7 percent from the field en route to a 19-18 advatnage.Â
THE SURGE
After falling behind 25-21, the Trojans would embark on a 14-to-6 scoring spurt to take a four point lead that culuminated with a Smanatha Michel bucket with three minutes to play in the opening half. The run would prove to be decsive as the Cavaliers would never again lead in the contest.
PUTTING IT OUT OF REACH
UVA Wise would make just 7-of-29 second half field goal attempts while Anderson would connect on 14 second half field goals to outscore the hosts 37-27 over the final 20 minutes to score the win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Anderson controlled the glass, outrebounding UVA Wise 52-to-36 in the game. The Trojans grabbed 21 offensive rebounds compared to just seven for the Cavs. Anderson's Shameka McNeill scored a game-high 24 points while teammate Samnatha Michel chipped in 11 off the bench.
UVA Wise placed three players in double figure scoring, led by Nia Vaznat who netted 14 and grabbed 10 boards. Johsnon finished with 13 points and Meg Crawford added 12 to round out the trio of double figure scorers.
