WISE, VA — Bradley Dean dropped a career-high 24 points against the Anderson Trojans inside the David J. Prior Convocation Center that help bolt the UVA Wise Cavaliers into a 78-75 victory on Saturday, Feb. 5.
HALF BY HALF:
In a hotly contested first 10 minutes of the game, Dean came out of the gate in a quick ten-point frenzy to keep the Cavaliers ahead by six points over the Trojans. Myles Jenkins and Jalen Hillery of the Trojans retaliated with two quick layups to keep the Cavs within reach. Each team scored possession-by-possession over the next seven minutes, never letting either team take a significant lead. With three minutes to go, a run by Dean and Isaiah McAmis solidified an eight point lead that was quickly cut to one as the teams went into the break.
The Trojans struggled from three-point range in the first half, only dropping three out of 12 compared to the Cavaliers' impressive 60-percent from the arc.
Coming out of the locker room, The Cavaliers struggled to keep their lead in the first five minutes as Anderson took a seven-point lead with the help of a Mason Carver jumper. Dean once again came through for UVA Wise, sinking a three-pointer to shut down a Trojan run. With less than five minutes to go in the game and the Trojans up five, Joel Pettiford sank a three-pointer and drew the and-1 to give the Cavaliers a one-point lead. In a blood battle to the finish, UVA Wise's performance from the charity stripe solidified a three-point win against the Trojans in the final seconds.
