WISE - - Sisters Caroline and Ellie Earnshaw combined for 11 points as UVA Wise rolled to a 17-1 NCAA Division II women's lacrosse triumph over visiting Lees-McRae at Carl Smith Stadium in the Cavaliers season opener Tuesday.
CONSISTENT SCORING
UVA Wise scored at least four goals in each of the game's four quarters. Playing under the new rules for the first time, the Cavaliers led 4-1 after the opening 15 minutes before outscoring the Bobcats 13-0 over the game's final 45 minutes for the running clock victory.
STAT STUFFING
A total of seven Cavs scored in the game. Caroline Earnshaw led the charge with five goals and assist while sister Ellie joined Mallory Trimble with three goals each. Ellie Earnshaw added a pair of assists to register five points as Kaila Lacey and Abby Stoffelen each netted two goals. Katie Allen and Paige Volpone had one goal each for Meghan Dennehy's squad.
TEAM TALLIES
Lees McRae turned it over 30 times and was limited to five shots. UVA Wise finished 13-for-16 in clear chances in comparison to an 8-for-21 showing by the guests.
A total of five yellow cards were assessed in the game, four of the cards were charged to the Bobcats.
