JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - - Host Carson-Newman closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 46-31 lead to intermission en route to an 86-58 South Atlantic Conference women's basketball victory at Holt Fieldhouse Wednesday. The win was the sixth in the last seven games for the Lady Eagles who improved to 8-2 in league play.
Carson-Newman (10-3, 8-2 SAC) received a monster game for SAC Player of the Year candidate Braelyn Wykle. The guard scored 36 points thanks to five made 3-pointers while adding five rebounds, a trio of assists and five steals. Center Lindsey Taylor chipped in 12 points for a Lady Eagles squad that attempted 80 field goals in the win while converting 13-of-16 free throws.
UVA Wise (3-10, 3-8 SAC) placed three players in double figures, led by junior guard Caitlyn Ross' 17 points. Ross added four assists and three steals to her stat line while Nia Vanzant scored in double figures for the 11th consecutive game with 15 points; Meg Crawford recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds on 5-of-7 shooting.
The contest was originally scheduled for Feb. 9 but, due to COVID-19 issues in the conference the two schools agreed to move up the contest to guarantee that it would be played.
The Cavs are currently scheduled to return to action at home Monday in a non-conference affair against the Concord Mountain Lions. Tip-off from the Prior Center is slated for 5:30 p.m.
