WISE - - Concord's Jazz Blankehsip scored a career-best 25 points while teammate Riley Fitzwater recorded a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in a 70-56 NCAA Division II women's basketball victory over UVA Wise at the Prior Center Monday.
HOW IT STARTED
Concord held UVA Wise to 23.5 percent shooting in the opening quarter to build a 15-10 advantage. Fitzwater scored six points in the stretch while the Cavaliers turned it over four times.
PIVOTAL STRETCH
The Mountain Lions used an 11-to-5 scoring spurt to close the first half to take a 37-24 lead to intermission. The Cavs would never again get the game within single digits in suffering their seventh consecutive loss.
CAVS LEADERS
Senior Meg Crawford posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while Jaymi Golden netted a team-high 14 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Concord blocked 10 shots, six of which came from Fitzwater. The Mountain Lions controlled the paint outscoring the Cavs 34-to-18 inside. The visitors also enjoyed a strong shooting night from the charity stripe, connecting on 14-of-15 attempts.
UVA Wise junior Nia Vanzant was held to single digit scoring for the first time all season, finishing with five points.
