WISE - - UVA Wise running back Jaevon Gillespie has been named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Cavaliers' 33-7 win over Carson-Newman Saturday. The Greeneville, Tenn. native rushed for a career-high 166 yards and four touchdowns on 18 carries en route to the first SAC Player of the Week award of his career.

Gillespie's 166 yards were the most by any UVA Wise running back since the program joined the SAC while his four rushing touchdowns are the second most in a single-game by any NCAA Division II back this season.

The redshirt sophomore scored the game's opening two touchdowns in the first quarter as he scored touchdowns of 1-yard and 2-yards to give UVA Wise an early 14-0 lead.

Gillespie busted the longest rush of his career to put the game out of reach in the third quarter. The back went off tackle, cut back toward the center of the field and then turned towards the sideline as he outraced a host of Eagles on his way to an 80-yard touchdown scamper making the score 27-7 late in the third quarter.

Gillespie is the third Cav to win AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week accolades this season, he joins Lendon Redwine and Daquandre Taylor as other UVA Wise football student-athletes to earn the honor.
