WISE – Women's tennis fell 4-3 to King University Saturday morning in their first match of the season.
In singles play, Katie Akimenko was taken down at No. 1 by King's Deniz Aytun (0-6, 6-1, 6-3).
Sarah Moore was defeated 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 while
Grace Hall fell by 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3 to King's Michaela Koricinova At No. 4 singles, Cavalier
Emily Conn fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to opponent Lauren Smorgonsky.
Liza Akimenko and
Sara Nichols each snagged a win because they were not faced with an opponent.
In the doubles, The Akimenko sister duo beat Koricinova and Aytun 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, Cavaliers Nichols and Conn fell to Marilyn Roustand and Smorgonsky by a score of 6-4, and Hall and Moore grabbed win by default due to a no team.
The UVA Wise tennis teams resume play next Saturday at Emory & Henry College, slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
