WISE – Men's tennis fell 7-0 to King University Saturday morning in their first match of the season.
In singles play,
Jake Ferner was defeated at No. 1 by King's Alex Sodre (6-3, 6-2).
Dominic Hoffman was beaten 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 while
Coleton Burke fell by 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 to the King's Andre Shiabel. At No. 4 singles, Cavalier Luke Jarnigan fell 6-3, 6-1 to his opponent Pedro Laydner.
John Robert Kilgore also fell by scores of 6-1 and 6-1 by Mat Viera of the Tornado. In the end,
Dylan Galenski lost to Kyle Robinson 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.
In the doubles, Ferner and Hoffman coupled up for the Cavaliers and lost 6-1 to King University's Schiabel and Sodre duo. At No. 2 doubles, Cavaliers Burke and Jarnigan fell 6-0 to Rhys Halcrow and Laydner of the Tornado. Lastly at No.3, Kilgore and Galenski lost 6-4 to duo Robinson and Mason Hunt of the Tornado.
The UVA Wise tennis teams resume play next Saturday at Emory & Henry College, slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
