WISE - - UVA Wise and the Highland Cavalier Club announced winners of the 2021-2022 Highland Cavalier Club Male and Female Athletic Scholarship Awards Friday. Seth Phillips, a tight end on the football team, and Makenzie King, a forward on the basketball team, took home the scholarships valued at $1,000.

A redshirt junior from Independence, Virginia, Phillips led all South Atlantic Conference tight ends in receptions (21) while adding a pair of touchdowns in 2019. A preseason all-conference selection in 2020, Phillips is a team captain who was named to the Dean's List last fall. Overall, he sports a 3.28 grade point average.

A rising senior from Harlan, Kentucky, King epitomizes the basketball team's "V Over Me" identity. The forward led the team in charges drawn in each of the last two seasons. Additionally, she poured in a career-high 22 points thanks to six made 3-pointers in a win at Wingate University. Named to the Dean's List four times, King currently holds a 3.89 grade point average.
