Volleyball Falls at Limestone in Regular Season Finale

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Volleyball fell 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-17) in its regular season finale on the road at Limestone University Saturday afternoon.

Limestone (4-5, 4-5 SAC) pulled out to an early lead but four straight points for UVA Wise (0-8, 0-8 SAC) knotted the first set at 11 apiece on a service ace for junior Matelyn Gibson. Trailing by four, the Cavs used another run to pull back within one point, 17-16. A block for freshman Cassidy Farley and senior Madelyn Lawrence tied the set once more at 20-20. UVA Wise continued to battle with another kill for Farley tying the set at 24, but the Saints won the final two points for a 1-0 lead in the match.

Another kill for Gibson gave UVA Wise a 5-4 lead early in the second set. Limestone utilized a run to take a 9-5 lead, but the Cavs managed to come from behind to regain the advantage, 15-13, on a service ace for freshman Bethany Smith. Five consecutive points for Limestone put the Saints back in front, 19-16. UVA Wise trailed by just two points late, but the Saints held on for the 25-20 second set win.

Back-to-back kills by junior Adison Minor and senior Brooke Abbott put the Cavs ahead early, but the Saints quickly regained the lead to go in front 13-8. UVA Wise pulled within six late, but the rally would not be enough as the Saints pulled out a 25-17 set three win to take the match 3-0.

Farley finished with a team-high eight kills, tying her season-high, while sophomore Meagan Blagg recorded a season-high seven kills. Farley added a game-high six blocks while redshirt junior Makayla Ledford notched a team-high 14 assists and Smith tallied a team-best 12 digs.
