MARS HILL, N.C. - - Three different UVA Wise quarterbacks combined to throw for six touchdown passes as Dane Damron's team came from behind to knock off Mars Hill 40-28 in the spring finale Friday.
UVA Wise (1-2, 1-2 SAC) and Mars Hill (0-2, 0-2 SAC) essentially played much of the game like a scrimmage. Both schools played several reserves for the bulk of the second half and Cavalier quarterback Tyler O'Reilly made the most of his first collegiate playing time.
The signal caller completed 9-of-11 passes for 156 yards a trio of touchdowns in the second half. The Chantilly High School graduate put the visitors in front for good when he fired his second touchdown pass of the game to Jamal Fisher, a 43-yard strike with 9:43 to play.
The O'Reilly to Fisher connection made it a 33-28 contest and precluded what proved to be the put away score when O'Reilly hooked up with Myles Ward with 4:07 to play, providing the final margin.
Lendon Redwine completed 12-of-17 pass attempts for 127 yards and two touchdowns while Garrett Cropp was 10-for-16 for 85 yards and a touchdown.
On the ground, Rodney Hudson led the Cavaliers with 68 yards on 18 carries. Fisher finished with five catches for 93 yards while Caleb Martin caught six passes and two touchdowns. Markel Harrison added six catches and a score with Ward finishing with three receptions for 48 yards.
Defensively, Mason Polier registered a season-high seven tackles, including his first collegiate sack, while teammate Patrick Taylor also made seven stops.
Mars Hill was led by Jimmy Urzua who completed 11-of-18 passes for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half.
The contest concludes the spring season for UVA Wise. Mars Hill will be back in action next week to face Limestone.
