WINGATE, N.C. – Men's tennis was defeated on the road, 7-0, by No. 16 Wingate University Saturday afternoon.
At No. 1 doubles, sophomore Jake Ferner and junior Dominic Hoffman teamed up for UVA Wise (1-7, 0-5 SAC) falling 6-1 to Wingate's (6-1, 5-0 SAC) Roy Stepanov and Matteo Gostoli. Senior Coleton Burke and junior Luke Jarnagin were topped 6-2 at No. 2 while sophomores John Robert Kilgore and James Srsich were swept by Josep Canyadell and Matthew Jones at the No. 3 spot.
Wingate's Matthew Jones defeated Ferner at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-2 as Hoffman was outlasted, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2. Burke fell to the Bulldogs Edis Nokic at No.3, 6-2, 6-0 while Jarnagin dropped his match 6-1, 6-0 to Wingate's Cioppa at No.4. Kilgore and sophomore Dylan Galenski were both swept at the No. 5 and No. 6 spot, respectively.
Head coach Roger Whited's team is back in action on the road tomorrow for a matchup with No. 13 Queens (N.C.) with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. Sunday.
