UVA Wise Too Strong For LMU

WISE - - Senior Jesse French did it all for UVA Wise Wednesday as the attacker netted four goals, dished out three assists, scooped up a trio of groundballs and added a caused turnover in a 16-6 South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse victory over Lincoln Memorial at Smith Stadium.

UVA Wise (1-2, 1-1 SAC) never trailed in the win and busted the game open with a 5-0 scoring spurt in the first half to take a 6-1 advantage. During the run, Katie Allen and Caroline Earnshaw each scored a goal while French scored three of her four goals during the run.

LMU (2-2, 2-1 SAC) never recovered as the visitors converted just 50 percent of their first half clear opportunities (5-of-10) while being outshot 24-to-8 in the first 30 minutes of play.

The Cavaliers dominated every statistical category as Meghan Dennehy's squad remained unbeaten all-time against the Railsplitters. UVA Wise scooped up 20 groundballs compared to 16 for LMU, won the draw control battle 15-to-9 while committing six few turnovers (21-15).

French was not the only Cav making noise on the offensive end. The sister duo of Caroline and Ellie Earnshaw also played a pivotal role. Caroline led all players with five goals while also adding five draw controls; meanwhile Ellie tallied four points and a pair of draw controls. Junior Katie Allen tied a career-high with four goals as part of a five-point game.

Overall, UVA Wise assisted on 10 of its 16 goals as Ellie Earnshaw (2) and Sydney Trask (2) joined French as Cavs with multiple assists.

In goal, Jordan Edwards had her strongest game of the season. The goalie logged all 60 minutes allowing just six goals while recording six saves and adding three groundballs.

LMU received two goals from Avery Van Der Ziel and four caused turnovers from Sage Leax.

Next up, Catawba visits Smith Stadium Saturday. First draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. and fans can catch the action live on the Cavalier Sports Network.
