SALISBURY, N.C. – UVA Wise was swept on the road by Catawba College Saturday afternoon, 7-0.
In doubles, Catawba's Jack Joel and Vid Rados defeated sophomore Jake Ferner and junior Dominic Hoffman at No. 1, 6-2, with sophomores John Robert Kilgore and James Srsich falling by the same score at the No. 3 spot. At No. 2, senior Coleton Burke and junior Luke Jarnagin were swept, 6-0, by Kane Elkin and Paul Dekester as UVA Wise trailed heading into singles play.
Ferner was defeated at number one singles, 6-0, 7-5, by Joel while Hoffman and Jarnagin each dropped their match 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and No. 4, respectfully. At No. 3 singles, Burke was topped 6-0, 6-1 while Elkin defeated Kilgore 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Srsich fell 8-1 at No. 6.
The Cavs will stay on the road to face the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne University Sunday. First serve is set for 12 p.m. in Hickory, North Carolina.
