ANDERSON, SC - The UVA Wise Cavaliers couldn't come up with a win against the Anderson University Trojans tonight, losing in three sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-12).
Â
The Trojans (17-6, 12-3 SAC) looked shaky at the beginning of the first set as the Cavs (4-19, 0-15 SAC) gained an early 8-4 lead mainly due to Trojan attack errors. Once the Trojans regrouped, they responded with six consecutive points led by a kill from Maya Learmouth. Cavalier
Dannah Persinger began with a kill to rally a comeback, but was short-lived as the Cavs suffered miscommunication on their end of the court with ball-handling errors. The Trojans took advantage of their missteps and went on a 5-point run, putting the Cavs at an 8-point deficit as the score read 22-14.
Adison Minor and
Kelsey Green got their kills in to cut the lead, but Anderson was able to seal the win with a score of 25-17.
Â
In the second set, both teams started strong as they exchanged points and rallies. The Trojans and Cavs each reached eight points, and then the Cavs took a 10-8 lead due to Trojan service errors. Hannah Worsham of Anderson responded with a kill and caused a Cavs error to tie the score, and from that point on, the Trojans scored the next 12 points of the match. Anderson had silenced the other end of the net, defeating the Cavs 25-13.
Â
In the third set, the Cavs snagged the first point of the match from a great serve by
Rylee Waye. Yet, Anderson scored the next four points, giving the Cavs a wake up call. Over the next 13 points, each team scored back and forth until a kill by Trojan Meg Sansbury started a seven-point rally to essentially finish off the win, 25-12.
Â
Minor led the Cavs in kills on the match, with teammate Waye with 9 assists and
Kaylee Scarce with 12 digs.
