The UVA Wise Cavaliers were unable to grab a win against the conference-undefeated Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Saturday, Oct. 2, losing to the Bears 3-0 (25-13, 25-10, 25-11).

In the first set, UVA Wise (3-11, 0-8 SAC) struck first with a block by duo Dannah Persinger and Adison Minor to snag a point. Lenoir-Rhyne (8-2, 6-0 SAC) struck back with a kill by Helen Hamilton to even the playing field, and the Bears never looked back. They went on a 3-point consecutive run directly after, and although Minor produced another kill, the Bears went on another five-point run. The Cavs couldn't keep up with the Bears' kills by Taylor Prall and Hannah Benson and eventually fell 25-13.Â
In the second set, Lenoir-Rhyne kept the Cavs scoreless while they ran away with eight points right out of the gate. Minor was UVA Wise's leader in the set as she kept her team alive with three kills and one assist, but it was not enough as the Bears kept the Cavs at 10 points and won by 15.
The third set had the same beginning as the second, with Lenoir-Rhyne scoring 8 unanswered points. UVA Wise attempted a comeback towards the end of the third set, scoring 4 unanswered points consisting of two Cassidy Farley kills and two Bears attack errors, but UVA Wise were eventually defeated 25-11.
Lenoir-Rhyne's Prall led the day with 10 kills, while UVA Wise's added eight of her own to her stats. Hannan Benson of the Bears led with 10 blocks, while Farley grabbed two. In assists, Hamilton of the Bears finished with 19, and UVA Wise's Rylee Waye ended with 16.Â

The Cavs will next take on the Emory & Henry Wasps at home on Tuesday, Oct. 5. First serve is slated for 7:00 p.m.
