CAVS ENTANGLED BY COBRAS, FALL 3-0

The Coker Cobras entangled the UVA Wise Cavaliers in a quick defeat today in the David J. Prior Convocation Center, winning 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-14).

In the first set, The Cavs displayed a different starting lineup due to injuries and illness. The effort started slow, as Coker gained two immediate points due to error. The Cavs answered right back with two points of their own to tie it up, but the Cobras found a rhythm and scored five consecutive points to lead 7-2. Kills by attackers Adison Minor and Morgan Blevins trimmed the lead down, but couldn't hold off the Cobras from striking. The Cobras came out victorious, 25-15.

In the second set, the Cavs were able to muster up three unanswered points against the Cobras to start it off. The Cobras didn't sit in the passenger seat for long though, as they went on a four-point run led by Naomi Earl-Reyes. Soon, the Cobras once again went on five-point run and snagged the lead, 13-11. Two kills from Kelsey Green aided the Cavs in a comeback, but multiple attack errors ended up being the venom the Cobras needed to seal the win. The Cobras won the second set, 25-18.

In the third and final set, Coker started their effort with a Chelsey Blume kill. Cassidy Farley of the Cavs answered back with two kills of her own, but Coker had already run away with five points. The two teams exchanged points for the majority of the match until another Blume kill gave the Cobras momentum to go on a five-point run. With the score 19-11, attack errors from the Cobras gave the Cavs a bit of an edge to keep fighting, but a few service aces and a final kill from Taylor Wilson ended the match in the Cobras favor, 25-14.

Green of the Cavs led the day with eight kills, with Lauren Loveday from the Cobras following right behind with seven. Coker's Alyssa Lake was the leader in blocks with four. Cavalier Kristin McKeehan had a season-high 14 assists.

The Cavaliers are right back at it at home against the Tusculum Pioneers on Tuesday, October 19 at 7:00 p.m.
