WISE - - Redshirt senior Kalee Johnson scored a career-high 25 points while adding a career-high 16 rebounds to lead UVA Wise to its sixth consecutive victory, 79-64 over Newberry College at the Prior Center Saturday. With the win, Jamie Cluesman's team has now tied the best start in program history since joining NCAA Division II.

Johnson scored 18 of her 25 points in the second half as UVA Wise (6-1, 6-1 SAC) outscored Newberry (3-7, 3-7 SAC) 20-to-14 in the third quarter to take a 60-47 lead to the final period.

The Wolves would get the lead to nine at 65-56 with just under five minutes to play on a bucket by Mylaysia Gates only to see the Cavaliers' Hanna Oliver respond with one of her two made 3-pointers of the day to push the lead back to double digits.

It would be as close as the visitors would get as UVA Wise would push the lead to as many as 18 points in the final minutes of the game en route to the home win.

Johnson added four steals and two blocks to her stat line while Nia Vanzant (14), Caitlyn Ross (13) and Mackenzie King (11) also finished in double figures for the Cavs.

Hanna Oliver had a season-best seven assists without committing a turnover as UVA Wise assisted on 16-of-23 made field goals.

The free throw line played a big part in the win; UVA Wise finished the game 24-for-33 at the stripe while Newberry was 12-for-20.

The Wolves won the battle of the boards 51-to-35 but committed 23 turnovers which led to 27 points for the Cavs.

Newberry received 12 points from Keli Romas and 10 points each from Ericka Wiseley and Alexis Miller.

The Wolves shot 33.8 percent from the floor but grabbed 17 offensive rebounds, despite the extra chances; the guests scored just seven second chance points.

UVA Wise had three players make multiple 3-pointers in the game. Johnson finished 3-of-6 from distance, Ross was 2-for-3 and Oliver connected on 2-of-6 3-point shots.

Next up, the Cavs will go for seven in a row Wednesday when the team hosts Lincoln Memorial University. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. from the Prior Center.
