WISE – UVA Wise dropped its second-straight home matchup in a 91-67 setback to No. 12/15 Queens (N.C.) Saturday afternoon.
Junior Cameron Whiteside led the Cavs (0-7, 0-7 SAC) with 13 points while redshirt junior Briggs Parris finished with 12 points.
Freshman Ben Bryson had his first double-figure scoring game with a season-high 11 points while going 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
Junior Kaeleb Carter netted 10 points and added four rebounds while sophomore Izeah Parker grabbed a team-high eight boards and added six points.
The Royals (8-2, 7-1 SAC) pushed their win streak to six as Queens (N.C.) finished with four players scoring double-digit points led by forward Jamari Smith's 17 points.
Whiteside and sophomore Drew Greene combined for the Cavs first five points of the game for a 5-3 lead a little over three minutes into the contest.
Queens (N.C.) used a 7-2 run to pull back in front, but a dunk by sophomore Izeah Parker pulled the Cavs back within one, 10-9, at the 14:38 mark.
UVA Wise trailed by five midway through the first half as the Cavs cut the Royals lead on a shot by Parris, 21-16.
The Royals' Quan McCluney's back-to-back shots from downtown extended the advantage for Queens (N.C.) with 8:16 to play, up 32-17.
UVA Wise managed to cut the Royals margin to single-digits at the 4:27 mark on a jumper by freshman Bradley Dean.
The Royals held the advantage into halftime, leading the Cavs 54-32.
Queens (N.C.) outscored UVA Wise 18-16 in the paint in the first frame while the Royals were aided by 27 bench points. The Cavs registered 14 rebounds, nine assists, and six steals in the first half.
A 9-0 run for Queens (N.C.) brought the Royals lead to 65-37 with 14:08 on the clock in the second half.
Another triple from Bryson with eight minutes to go cut the Royals margin, but the Cavs would not be able to overcome the double-digit deficit as Queens (N.C.) took home the 91-67 victory.
UVA Wise had 15 points from the bench in the second half while the Royals finished with 20 points in the paint compared to 10 points for the Cavs in the closing frame.
Queens (N.C.) had four score double-digit points with a game-high 17 points from forward Jamari Smith. Quan McCluney added a double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds.
On the day, the Cavs shot 39.1 percent (25-for-64) from the floor and were just 7-for-32 (21.9 percent) from behind the arc.
UVA Wise will be on the road to start next week at No.2/6 Lincoln Memorial University Monday evening. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
