WISE, Va. - Women's tennis fell 7-0 against No. 11 Wingate University Wednesday evening at Jim and Betty Humphrey's tennis complex. Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko earned the only win of the day at the No. 1 doubles spot.
In the No. 2 position for UVA Wise (4-6), Megan Harwood and Lillian Morris fell 6-0 to Wingate (4-0) while Aya Melhem and Grace Hall dropped their match in the No. 3 spot, 6-0.
In singles play, Liza Akimenko was outlasted 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 position Katya Akimenko fell 6-1,6-0. Megan Harwood was swept in the No. 3 spot, while Aya Melhem fell at No. 4 6-1,6-0. Grace Hall was defeated in the No. 5 position 6-1,6-0 and Olivia Dishner was swept at No. 6 as the Cavs fell 7-0 to the Bulldogs.
Wingate is the second nationally ranked team UVA Wise has faced this season. The Cavaliers will return to action March 14th to take on the Cobras of Coker University in Hartsville, South Carolina.
