WISE - - Visiting King University used a pair of solid pitching performances to claim a doubleheader non-conference softball sweep over UVA Wise at Cavalier Field Saturday afternoon. The Tornado won game one 3-1 behind a complete game four-hitter from senior Casey Gilbert before senior Emma Hughes hurled a complete game three-hitter in a 3-1 win.
King (4-4) took a 2-0 lead in the second inning of game one on a two-run homer by Bailey Deason before tacking on a third run on Deason RBI single in the fourth.
UVA Wise (5-5) scored its lone run on a Julia Hoy solo homer in the seventh as the Cavs saw their three-game winning streak snapped.
Game two saw a similar pattern repeat itself as Lexi Stafford put the Tornado on top with a run-scoring single in the second.
UVA Wise tied the game on a solo homer by Alexis Miles in the fourth only to see King regain the lead on a two-run homer by Erin Foster in the fifth.
The Cavs will be back in action tomorrow against Lees-McRae with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
