BEREA, Ky. - - Men's tennis remains undefeated this fall as Head Coach Roger Whited's team secured their third consecutive sweep to open the campaign.
UVa-Wise (3-0) posted wins across all three doubles matches. Freshmen duo Cleve Packer and Connor Giza defeated Berea's Christopher Malpartida and Juan Chavez-Casiano, 8-3, at number one as junior Coleton Burke and sophomore Luke Jarnagin upended their opponents by the same score, 8-3, at number two doubles.
Freshmen John Robert Kilgore and James Srsich teamed up to take down Berea's Jon Tuttle and Edison Angamrca at the number three spot, 8-1.
In singles play, Packer recorded a win at No. 1, 6-2, 6-0, over Malpartida. At No. 2, Burke gained another victory with a tiebreaker win, 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(10-2), while Giza won by retirement at the No. 2 spot.
Jarnagin came out on top at number four with a 6-0, 6-2 win as Kilgore posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles. Srsich earned his first singles victory of the season at No. 6 in dominating fashion, topping his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
The Cavs will pick back up next weekend with a road match at West Virginia State University Saturday at noon before heading back home to take on Milligan College at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
