WISE – Men's tennis notched the team's first win of the season Saturday afternoon in a sweep of Brevard College, 7-0, at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. The win marked the first career victory for Head Coach Roger Whited.
At number one doubles, freshmen Cleve Packer and Connor Giza earned the win, 6-2, over the Tornados' Christian Rogerson and Ethan McGhee. At No. 2, junior Coleton Burke and sophomore Luke Jarnagin defeated their opponents, 6-1, while freshmen John Robert Kilgore and James Srsich recorded a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Packer gained his first career singles victory with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Brevard's Christian Rogerson. Burke recorded a win at No. 2, 7-6(7-2), 7-6(8-6) over McGhee with Giza notching another victory for the Cavs at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-4. At number four, Jarnagin won 6-2, 6-2, while John Robert Kilgore won at number five singles, 6-1, 6-4. Senior John Hamilton tacked on another singles win for UVa-Wise at No. 6 in a 8-0 sweep of his opponent.
Coach Whited's squad returns to the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex next Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against Johnson University-Tennessee.
